TPC Offshore Wind Power Generation Phase II Project (OSS Topside)
On June 21-22, 2025, at PV Shipyard (Vung Tau), PPL successfully transported and launched the nearly 4,000-ton (including launching girders) offshore substation topside, a massive structure manufactured by the main contractor PV Shipyard. This marks the first time in Vietnam that an offshore substation topside component has been entirely planned, transported, and launched by a domestic enterprise – utilizing a self-propelled hydraulic trailer system (SPMT).
This event is not only a milestone for PPL but also signifies a strategic advancement for Vietnam's engineering logistics industry – from dependence on international contractors to the ability to fully master the solutions, means, equipment, and processes for handling oversized and heavy components.
Goals & Scope of Work
- Conduct site surveys and develop detailed engineering plans.
- Mobilize, configure, and operate the SPMT system.
- Transport the topside from the fabrication yard to the launching site.
- Organize load-out/launching according to international safety standards.
- Monitor and ensure technical safety throughout the entire deployment process.
Key Challenges
With a load of nearly 4,000 tons (including the launching beams), an extremely complex S-shaped route, limited space, and tight deadlines, absolute safety had to be ensured under changing tidal conditions.
