On March 4, the Ministry of Industry and Trade coordinated with the People's Committee of Quang Ninh province to organize a conference to develop logistics services with the participation of many experts and businesses to discuss solutions to build this crucial economic field.

Logistics development is not commensurate with the potential

At the conference, Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien assessed Quang Ninh as a miniature Vietnam, when fully equipped from sea and islands, plains, midlands, hills, borders, airports to seaports.

Referring to Quang Ninh, people often think only of tourism and coal mineral resources,... However, there is a potential service industry that this province also has a special advantage to develop - that is logistics.

In fact, Quang Ninh has a favorable geo-economic position and an almost complete and modern transport infrastructure system in the country with all 5 types of transport (road, inland waterway, railway, etc.) sea, air) to help connect with provinces and cities at home and abroad.

Besides, Quang Ninh is also always a breakthrough province, leading in administrative reform, and improving the business investment environment when for 5 consecutive years (2017-2021) holding the leading position in the country in terms of competency index Provincial Competition (PCI).

"Over the past years, the province has had many policies to promote the logistics industry, but it is still not commensurate with the potential, it is necessary to have stronger and more breakthrough solutions to promote this important service industry," said Mr. Dien.

According to Mr. Dien, Quang Ninh needs to plan the development of logistics services to ensure compliance with the orientations set out in the Government's Resolution 163 on promoting the development of Vietnam's logistics services and the Prime Minister's Decision 80 on approval. approving the planning of Quang Ninh province in the period to 2030, with a vision to 2050.

Prioritize budget allocation as a "prime capital" to attract reputable corporations and businesses with investment capacity and development of large-scale logistics infrastructure. Promote the restructuring of industries, trade, and services in the area based on different potentials, outstanding opportunities, and competitive advantages of the province.

Enterprises propose breakthrough solutions

Dr. Le Quang Trung - Deputy General Director of Vietnam National Shipping Lines said that in order for logistics activities in Quang Ninh area to develop commensurately and not to fall behind, it is necessary to focus on a number of key solutions such as reviewing overall existing ports, mooring berths in Con Ong - Hon Net area.

According to Mr. Trung, one of Quang Ninh's biggest bottlenecks is the traffic connection behind the port because the distance from these local ports to the northern provinces is longer than that of Hai Phong, which leads to increased inland transportation fees for shipping lines and shippers.

Therefore, the province needs to study and promulgate mechanisms and policies strong enough to attract investment in economic zones, helping to proactively create a source of goods for shipping lines.

According to Mr. Trung, it is necessary to research, develop and exploit railway lines connecting import and export goods from Quang Ninh's Cai Lan port cluster to China through Dong Dang - Mong Cai - Lao Cai border gates.

The import and export connection from Quang Ninh to China will make a significant contribution to building and raising the international service chain.

In particular, the Government is encouraging the development of official trade, especially agricultural products, which need logistics services in terms of means, warehouses for storage, and cold storage to preserve perishable goods such as fruits, Quang Ninh needs a clear strategy for this trend.
