Maersk builds a leading logistics center in Shanghai
On February 14, 2023, in Shanghai, China, Maersk Shipping and Logistics Company held a groundbreaking ceremony for a $150 million center.
This leading logistics center is expected to be completed in the third quarter of 2024 and is located in the Lingang area, in the Shanghai Free Trade Zone. The warehouse area is about 150,000m2, including 4 standard warehouses with 3 floors and one 24m high warehouse.
Once completed, the center will provide customers with many integrated logistics services, including international export, regional and global order distribution, cross-border e-commerce, etc.

Maersk signed a land use contract with the Lingang New Area Administrative Committee in December 2022, marking the official construction of the first smart green logistics center in China. "We will continue to invest in China, helping to make Shanghai a leading logistics and transportation hub in the world," Wu said.
This logistics facility uses advanced, environmentally friendly materials and is equipped with a rainwater management system and solar cells to optimize water and energy consumption efficiency. The new center also features low-carbon energy systems, including natural ventilation and non-fossil heating, to minimize environmental impacts.
The new facility is just one part of Maersk's expansion in China, as the country plays an important role in the shipping industry. Customs statistics show that in 2022, China's total merchandise trade value will reach more than 42 trillion yuan - a record high. As a result, the country also maintained its position as the world's largest commodity trader for the sixth year in a row.
According to the above statistics, China accounts for about 30% of global seaborne trade. Therefore, international shipping companies are focusing more on the Chinese market. In particular, the port city of Shenzhen (Guangdong province) is attracting more attention from companies like Maersk.
In addition to the center in Shanghai, Maersk also plans to invest in building a smart and green integrated logistics center covering the Asia-Pacific region at Yantian Comprehensive Bonded Zone to exploit more potential markets.
