PPL successfully transported and launched a nearly 4,000-ton transformer station built by General Contractor PV Shipyard.
Bao Tin Trading and Logistics Company Limited (PPL) has just set a new milestone in the Vietnamese logistics industry when it successfully transported and launched an offshore transformer station topside weighing nearly 4,000 tons (including launching beam) - the largest package ever in Vietnam carried entirely by SPMT self-propelled hydraulic trailers. The package was manufactured in nearly 2 years by the Petroleum Rig Manufacturing Joint Stock Company (PV Shipyard), marking an important step in the journey of this unit to deeply participate in the offshore renewable energy sector. Vietnamese enterprises master the technology of transporting super-heavy loads
On June 21-22, 2025, at PV Shipyard Port (Vung Tau), Bao Tin Trading and Logistics Company Limited (PPL) completed the transportation (site-move) and loading-out of the topside of the offshore substation weighing nearly 4,000 tons with a "giant" size of 58m x 39m x 37m (including the launching beam). Regarding the transportation and loading by the SPMT self-propelled hydraulic crane, it can be affirmed that this is the heaviest package in Vietnam by a Vietnamese company to date.
The topside of the substation was manufactured by the Petroleum Rig Manufacturing Joint Stock Company (PV Shipyard) from August 2023 to June 2025. This topside is a key component of the offshore substation system - which collects and converts electricity from wind turbines, before transmitting it to land.

The “huge” topside package was transported by PPL using special equipment SPMT
PPL mobilized a modern equipment system including 156 self-propelled hydraulic axles (SPMT), 06 PPU power units, controlled by PPL's experienced team of experts to carry out the entire site-move and load-out process. This event not only affirmed PPL's outstanding capacity but also marked an important milestone in the Vietnamese technical logistics industry: for the first time, an offshore substation component was planned, deployed and transported entirely by a domestic unit.
Speaking at the event, Mr. Do Hoang Phuong - Chairman and General Director of PPL shared that mastering all modern SPMT equipment imported from Germany, management software from Bentley (UK), a team of experienced operating engineers and a strict project management process, the launching of super-heavy components such as topside or jacket (base) for offshore transformer stations is a strategic step forward not only for PPL but also for the domestic logistics industry. Previously, Vietnam relied heavily on foreign units in this field.

“With the current trend of infrastructure development in Vietnam, modern specialized equipment and professional management and operation processes like this project are extremely useful. We are ready to accompany and wish to continue serving key national projects – from energy, oil and gas to transport and industrial infrastructure projects – to make practical contributions to the sustainable development of the country and enhance the competitiveness of Vietnam's logistics industry in the international arena.”, Mr. Phuong emphasized.
The mark of Vietnamese enterprises joining forces to serve key national projects
According to Mr. Nguyen Nam Anh - Deputy Director of Oil and Gas Rig Manufacturing Joint Stock Company (PV Shipyard), the successful manufacture of the topside of the offshore transformer station weighing nearly 4,000 tons marks an important milestone not only for PV Shipyard but also for the Vietnamese mechanical engineering industry. This success affirms domestic capacity in designing, processing and mastering the technology of large-scale components, meeting the strict technical standards of offshore renewable energy projects.
“We appreciate the cooperation between PV Shipyard and PPL - a reputable unit that has carried out the transportation and launching of the topside structure. This success once again affirms that Vietnamese contractors are fully capable of mastering all stages: from design, solution development, mastering equipment and operating procedures, and delivering products to foreign customers earlier than planned.”, Mr. Nam Anh added.

In just the past few months, PPL has continuously made its mark with a series of large-scale projects. At the end of March 2025, the company successfully transported a transformer station base weighing 3,200 tons and 4 foundation piles weighing nearly 700 tons each. Also in June 2025, PPL completed the transportation and load-out of all packages with a total of nearly 800 oversized and overweight shipments (from 350 to 2,387 tons per package) of the CHW2204 offshore wind power project, under the bidding package of Vietnam Petroleum Technical Services Corporation (PTSC).
Whether it is oil and gas, energy or transport infrastructure, PPL is demonstrating its ability to provide integrated logistics solutions for the largest and most complex components - a field that was previously the "playground" of international contractors.
The ‘giant’ Topside structure weighing nearly 4,000 tons was successfully launched by PPL
Consecutive large-scale projects with high requirements on vehicle capacity, technical team and technological solutions have clearly demonstrated the position and competitiveness of Vietnamese enterprises such as PPL in the field of oversized and overweight transportation, enhancing the competitiveness of Vietnamese logistics enterprises in the international arena.
