Wind Power Equipment Transportation

01.02.2026

Vietnam ranks among the top 10% of the windiest regions in the world, with an average wind speed of 7.2 m/s at a height of 100 meters. Therefore, harnessing wind energy to generate electricity by using wind power to drive turbines and rotate blades has become a highly promising renewable energy solution.

According to calculations by the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC), Vietnam’s onshore wind power potential is approximately 24 GW. In Vietnam, the investment cost of wind power has dropped below that of coal-fired power since 2017, indicating that renewable energy is the most cost-effective energy source based on the Levelized Cost of Energy (LCOE). Renewable energy companies such as Vestas, Goldwind, Envision, Sungrow, etc., not only supply the market with the latest wind turbine technologies but also directly invest in many onshore wind projects and plan for nearshore and offshore wind developments. This trend has led to a surge in demand for wind power transportation services.

1. Equipment Requirements for Wind Power Projects

All wind towers and wind power equipment are manufactured overseas and imported into Vietnam by sea. From the port, wind power equipment is transported by trailers and prime movers to the construction site. On average, a 30 MW wind farm in Central Vietnam requires transportation equivalent to 130 trucks operating in multiple trips, totaling approximately 600 truck movements and two sea voyages to complete the delivery of wind power equipment from the port to the installation site.

Wind turbines are extremely large and consist of many complex components. A wind turbine tower can range from 80 meters to over 200 meters in height, while turbine components have diameters ranging from 3 meters to 5.5 meters.

2. Special Requirements for Wind Power Transportation Providers

For onshore wind power projects, logistics providers must be capable of delivering comprehensive transportation solutions at all levels, ranging from simple transport of equipment packages to full turnkey logistics services from port to construction site. Turnkey logistics services for onshore and offshore wind power projects include:

  • Survey and planning

  • Transportation permit application and customs clearance

  • Loading and unloading of heavy and oversized wind turbine blades

  • Logistics management and transportation execution

  • On-time delivery of all wind power equipment to the project site

Transporting wind turbines with heavy and oversized dimensions (backlink to heavy & oversized cargo transportation services) requires meticulous and thorough planning, as the equipment is not only large and heavy but also consists of numerous delicate components.
